Romeo is one of the main characters in the play Romeo and Juliet. He is a young man, about sixteen years oldand of the family Montague. He falls in love with Juliet who is of the Capulet family when he sneaks into a Capulet party with his friends, Mercutio and Benvolio. However, his love for Juliet is disastrousas the two families are bitter rivals and will not see eye to eye.

Romeo's character is interesting and enjoyable to read about. He has a joking, easygoing personality and he enjoys verbal juss with his friends, Mercutio and Benvolio as shown in act 1, scene 4 when he is joking with Mercutio about love. Romeo's main characteristic is his impulsiveness. throughout the play, his rash actions and poorly thought out decisions have disastrous consequences. The first example of Romeo's impulsiveness is near the start of the play when he meets Juliets. throughout the scene before, Romeo wa "in love" with agirl caled Rosaline and was talking about how wonderful she was. However, as soon as he meets Juliet he forgets Rosaline completely and falls in love with Juliet. Romeo's lov for Juliet was partly responsible, along with the "ancient grudge" between the two families, for Romeo and Juliets' deaths.

One of the main ideas in the play is revenge and its consequences which is show in many circumstances throughout the play. the main reason for this idea of revenge and its consequences is the vendetta between the Capulet family and the Montague family. this feud resultd in may fights and disagreements and ultimately the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. It took their deaths to convince the families to end their vendetta and stop the pointless suffering and hurt.

Romeo as a character helped m to understand the main idea of reveng and its consequences. His impulsiveness leads to many acts of revenge and his reactions clarified the main idea. The main example of this is Romeo falling in love with Juliet which is first showed when Romeo says, "O, she doth teach the torches to burn bright". However, because of the vendetta between the Capulets and the Montagues, Romeo's love for Juliet causes their deaths as we are told in the line, "with their death bury their parents strife" in the prologue.

Another example of how Romeo's impulsiveness helped me to understand the main idea of revenge ad its consequences was when Romeo killed Tybalt. This action by Romeo was an act of revenge against Tybalt as he killed Romeo's friend Mercutio moments before. This started when Tybalt tried to goad Romeo into a fight. However, Romeo refused saying, "I never injur'd thee, but love thee better than thou canst devise". The turning point for the act of revenge was when Mercutio died saying, "A plague o' both your houses". Mercutio said this as he was blaming the vendetta between the two houses for his death. This caused Romeo to fight and kill Tybalt.

In the play, Romeo helped me to understand the main idea of revenge and its consequences through his actions and the choices he made. This was mostly done by his impulsiveness and rash decisions spurred on by anger or pain. Romeo was an enjoyable character to read about and his personality aided me in my understanding of the main idea of revenge and its consequences.
